Tragic Death of Special Needs Student Inspired Bill - SB 1072

Sacramento – Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), joined by the parents of a special needs student who tragically died after being left unattended on a school bus, and child safety advocates will hold a press conference at the Whittier City Hall on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 12 p.m. regarding Governor Jerry Brown signing SB 1072 (Mendoza), also known as the “Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law” into law. The new law requires all school buses in California to be equipped with a child-safety alarm system.

SB 648 Requires Elder Care Referral Agency Licensing, Inspections & Financial Disclosure

Sacramento - Senate Bill 648 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza is on its way to Governor Brown for his consideration after receiving final approval by the State Senate today on a bipartisan vote of 24-12. 

The bill will create licensing and financial disclosure requirements in order to protect seniors and their families from elder care referral agencies that engage in unscrupulous business practices. The Governor will have until September 30th to sign the legislation.

Sacramento – The “Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law” authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) is on its way to Governor Brown after receiving final approval today by the State Senate on a unanimous bipartisan concurrence vote of 39 to 0. The bill was approved earlier this week by the State Assembly. Governor Brown will have until September 30th to act on SB 1072.

Sacramento – California Senate Bill 1072 (Mendoza), also known as the “Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law,” named after a Whittier Union High School District student who tragically died after being left unattended on a school bus, is scheduled for its final legislative vote by the State Senate tomorrow—Friday, August 26, 2016. Senator Mendoza will be available for media interviews in the Senate Chamber Press Bay following the vote.

Sacramento – The State Senate today gave final legislative approval to SB 1332, authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia). The bill will ensure that when a gun owner leaves his or her property, they may loan their firearm to an individual, as long as it is stored in a safe and secure manner. It also allows joint registration of firearms by spouses and domestic partners. The bill now goes to Governor Brown for his consideration.
