Honored by the State Senate at a Capitol Ceremony & Reception

Sacramento – Today, to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers, an historic group of African American service members, Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) and Senator Isadore Hall III (D–Compton), Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, hosted a reception in the State Capitol and presented Senate Concurrent Resolution 128.
Sacramento – Senate Bill 1225, authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), was approved by the State Senate this week. The bill now goes to the State Assembly for consideration.
The bill will establish a “Teacher Bill of Rights” to ensure that California’s 300,000 teachers are made aware of their fundamental rights so they can provide an exceptional educational experience for the state’s 6.2 million K-12 students. The bill will also help address the state’s teacher shortage crisis.

Sacramento – A series of news stories highlighting billions of dollars in workers’ compensation fraud in California over the last several years has prompted Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), Chair of the Senate Labor & Industrial Relations Committee, to call for a comprehensive review of what the state is doing to combat fraud.
Sacramento – Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) and Wells Fargo Bank will hold a free financial literacy workshop on Saturday,June 4, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Pico Rivera Community Center, 9528 Beverly Blvd., Pico Rivera.
The workshop will feature resources and information on the following:
Sacramento – Today, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) approved an audit request by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) on a vote of 8 to 3. The audit will review whether Alliance College-Ready Public Charter Schools in Los Angeles used public money for purposes unrelated to student support and learning.
“Alliance receives a significant amount of state funding each year to provide a quality education to the students it serves,” said Senator Tony Mendoza.
Sacramento – The “Paul Lee School Bus Safety Law” authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) was approved today by the State Senate on a unanimous bipartisan vote of 35 to 0. The bill now goes to the State Assembly for consideration.
Sacramento – The State Senate today unanimously approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 111 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), which designates a portion of Interstate 5 in Los Angeles, as the “Downey Police Officer Ricardo Galvez Memorial Highway.” SCR 111 now goes to the State Assembly for consideration.
With California facing one of the most severe droughts on record, Governor Brown declared a drought State of Emergency in January and directed state officials to take all necessary actions to prepare for water shortages.
