PARAMOUNT – In the hope of easing traffic congestion and spurring economic development, state legislators and local city officials last month called for renewed efforts to construct a 20-mile light-rail system from Artesia to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Even though there is no station in Bell Gardens currently proposed for a light rail project that would connect riders from Downtown Los Angeles to Artesia, Mayor Pro Tem Pedro Aceituno recognizes the impact access to regional transit would have for a community that has far too long been isolated from the rest of the county.

Senator Mendoza Applauds Approval of the Funds

Sacramento – Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) released the following statement regarding the approval, on an 11 to 0 vote, of $18 million of Measure R funds by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority Board (MTA) for the Eco-Rapid Transit light-rail line. The funds will be used for predevelopment and planning of Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) along the West Santa Ana Branch.
