Sacramento – A bill that strengthens California’s conflict of interest laws and restores public trust and accountability was approved today by the State Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee on a bipartisan vote. Senate Bill 1011 now goes to the State Assembly Local Government Committee.

SCR 130 by Senator Tony Mendoza Declares June 10th as “Portugal Day 2016”

Sacramento - The State Senate today recognized the contributions of California’s Portuguese-American community by adopting Senate Concurrent Resolution 130 by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), declaring June 10th as “Portugal Day” in California. A special ceremony featuring the Consul General of Portugal in San Francisco and Portuguese-American dignitaries from throughout the state was held on the Senate Floor following the vote.

Sacramento – Senate Bill 1225, authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), was approved by the State Senate this week. The bill now goes to the State Assembly for consideration.

The bill will establish a “Teacher Bill of Rights” to ensure that California’s 300,000 teachers are made aware of their fundamental rights so they can provide an exceptional educational experience for the state’s 6.2 million K-12 students. The bill will also help address the state’s teacher shortage crisis.
